Once
upon a time, in a far off land (California!), I happened across a magical music
shop in Fisherman's wharf, San Fransisco. They had every folk instrument imaginable,
including a kit for making a Native American Lakota Flute. I was hooked immediately
by the soft heartfelt tones of the instrument and I felt as though I knew how
to play it immediately.
I
returned to my home in Sweden, and finishing my flute. Later that year I was
inspired to make a cedar flute for a good friend whose Native American husband
had recently died. They had met on the internet and he had moved to New Zealand
to be with her.
My
next flute was made from swamp kauri, an ancient New Zealand timber which had
lain preserved in a swamp for 40 000 years. Swamp kauri is a rich lusterous
amber colour with flashes of gold, and gave a very pleasing mellow tone.
From then on people just seemed to keep asking me to make flutes for them with
different animal totems. Every time I build a flute I like to keep in my consciousness
the energy of the person and follow this connection to create the right flute
for them... no two flutes are ever the same. It gives me great joy useing my
creative abilities to provide something so pleasureable and healing... I feel
very blessed.

These
wooden flutes are based on the Native American Lakota six hole
flute. They are very easy to learn to play being based on the
pentatonic scale (the black notes on the piano). You can't play
any wrong notes!
I
handcraft your flute from your choice of timber, either traditional
Western Cedar, or wonderful recycled New Zealand native timbers
such as totara, swamp kauri and rimu.
Each
flute comes with basic playing instructions and finishing wax
to keep your flute in top condition. Flute bags are also available.

The
Tui is a 6 hole 55cm flute with a smooth balanced tone and ease
of fingering, and comes with a stylised loon
bird totem. It is in the key of F# minor.

A
scaled up version of the Tui, with a softer and deeper meditative
tone in the lower key of C minor. This is a 6 hole 70cm flute
and comes with a stylised loon bird totem.

A double flute with one chamber playing a drone note to accompany
the melody on the other chamber. These are available only in

"I'm so pleased I can't find
words to express how grateful I am. It's an amazing flute and
the sound is magical. When I took the flute in my hands and tried
it the first time a great melody came out of the flute which I
have record for few minutes ago. I will use this melody in a song
